My sister and I had a nice stay here during October. The rooms were cute and spacious with a nice balcony. It is a great location directly across from Long Sands. Our room was clean. It was off-season, so I can see how this hotel could be incredible during the summer (it looked like there was a pool, firepit and outdoor gathering areas). The front desk was kind enough to leave us our key in a convenient location for pick-up when we checked in after hours.

One issue that I did see on other reviews is that doors to the hotel are propped open, which feels unsafe. Although the rooms themselves had locks, we were totally unable to fully close the doors to the hotel (door from the stairwell to the rooms on the second floor).

I do want to flag that we were double charged for a room and did not receive much help getting a refund and eventually had to obtain a refund through our credit card company. The hotel was completely unresponsive when we tried to rectify this issue (no calls back, no emails back). The other people we were staying with also were double charged and had not realized it until we told the about our experience.

I understand the hotel is for sale/up for auction, so that may be the root of the issue, but the double payment will cause us to avoid staying here again.

The floors were dirty. The bed was clean and very comfortable. We had to call twice to get clean towels and have the garbage removed. They never replaced the garbage bags with new ones. We ran out of toilet paper which was not replaced. The view was great. The room was really not set up for two people. There was one bed and one chair, it was hard to be comfortable on your down time unless you were sleeping. The pool was awesome.

BED BUGS BED BUGS BED BUGS!!!
Stayed here for a wedding a couple weeks ago. After my first night sleeping there I started developing bites on my legs that l've never experienced before, I didn't think much of it at first given the different climate of Maine.
They were still happening once we got back home and we quickly realized it was bed bugs. Many other weddings guests that stayed here also had the same complaints.
Beyond the $4,000+ we've had to spend on treating our house for the bed bugs, being displaced and forced to stay at hotels/airbnb's, and not to mentioned the hit this has taken to our mental health, this place was easily the biggest catfish l've experienced, don't be deceived by their website. The entire place is run by seemingly teenagers who have no idea what they're doing. There wasn't a single drawer or even a hanger in the room for us to put our clothes away, thus forcing us to keep our suitcases/clothes on the floor (which is the main way infestations get carried home). We had to constantly ask the front desk for clean towels. The room was extremely dirty, hair and bugs and dust everywhere. They claimed the rooms only get cleaned every 3 days. There's not even water available to guests.
I've tried calling the front desk multiple times to complain and speak to someone and every time it is a very young employee who has no idea how to handle any of this and says a "manager will be in tomorrow." I've left my number with no call backs. Instead, I get a short email denying anything and ignoring my requests for any sort of compensation.
I'm not even the type of person that leaves reviews.. like at all, but this has been a nightmare experience from start to finish and it's apparent from these other reviews that it's not a rare issue from them.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!

VILE. Do not stay here. Our room was covered in dog hair. The sheets and beds were covered in dog hair and human hair along with the floors. There was a giant stain on our bed sheets too. We killed probably 20 bugs and we were there for one night. The room had one single towel for a room with 4 people. When we walked in The bed was all wrinkled like someone was sitting on it. There was not a single employee at the entire hotel so we had to go into the employee closet to get our own clean sheets and towels. Will never ever come back here it was so gross

The room was as expected - small but affordable and well appointed and a newly updated bathroom. My major problem with the room was that the lights outside the room were so bright and the shade on the window was so transparent that it never got dark in the room and we all had trouble sleeping. The staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful and the location is great.

The entire outside including the pool area smelt like feces. Our water stopped working while we were out. Nobody called us, we returned after a long day at 10pm. The guy at the desk was like, “oh ya we know.” Had to move to another building. The front desk kept knocking on our door in the morning to rush us out. Told me I wouldn’t be charged for a pet fee but was. Called to get my pet fee back was told to call Expedia. At that point I spoke with a manager who refunded half my stay. However the receipt emailed isn’t half of my stay. I visit York all year for over $400 I had better expectations for this place.

Update: I was very happy that when we were able to speak to the manager, he was extremely supportive and happy to help with all the lacking amenities. I am hopeful that next summer they will be able to fix the WiFi, get the cafe up and running and have the bar at the pool opened. I definitely will be checking back in next summer to see if the amenities are back up and would love to return.

First Review: My husband and I found this place last year and it was a blast. We loved it so much we brought both of our families (one of which flew from CA) to enjoy the beautiful New England coast. Sadly none of the amenities were available, no bar at the pool, no cafe, no WiFi, no lounge chairs on the grass, etc. The customer service is severely lacking, and my family was met with rolled eyes and attitude when we had normal requests such as extra towels and blankets. We were still charged full price and there was no communication before arriving that that these amenities were unavailable, and were never told until we asked. It’s extremely disappointing since there are so many other options here and the reason we choose this place was for the amenities.

If I could leave zero stars I would. Please mind the long explanation but our experience here was a nightmare. I would not stay here again even if it was free.

I am extremely unhappy and disappointed with my experience that ended with all of the fire alarms going off last night and management no where to be found.

When we arrived, we were actually 30 minutes past check in time and there were still guests in the room that we were supposed to be in. At check in, the manager just said he had to deal with something and disappeared for 20 minutes before reappearing and placing us in a different room. This whole time, he seemed very bothered by having to do this. We were placed in a room that was not at all like the one that we booked, and were facing the parking lot on the first floor, even though there were less than 5 guests in the whole building.

We finally settle into our room and realize there is no TV remote. We decide to ask management for one/a solution on our way back from dinner. Again, he is very bothered and seems to treat this like a nuisance to him. He then places us in the room that we were originally supposed to be in, having us shuffle all of our items across the hallway - still on the first floor with a whole building of vacancy. This room is also very unsatisfactory, but out of frustration and wanting to start vacation, we leave it alone. Firstly, the room was barely cleaned with visible dirt on the floors and in corners. The bed was poorly made and did not feel clean. There was a shower stool left in the shower that had yellow/white dirt on it. Additionally, the TV was on the wall to our right in the bed and basically not viewable from the bed, and we did not have a seating area.

For the week, we tried to make the best of the situation and the lodging to enjoy our vacation. Yet, the entire time the staff was unprepared, reluctant to help, late, and often unfindable. The hotel was left in unsafe conditions daily, where the doors to the outside were left open and physically propped open with rocks. Management would arrive late and leave early every day.

The final night, before we were supposed to leave (yesterday evening) we were laying in bed as the fire alarms started to go off. Again, there was no management present at the hotel. My partner and I immediately vacated and I called the phone number provided on the door. I called multiple times until prompted by the voicemail. I told my partner to call 911 as we did not know who was in the hotel or what was happening.

Since the firefighters also did not know, and there was no management on site, they sent multiple engines and the captain. The firefighters also attempted to contact management numerous times as I continued to attempt to reach someone with the York Beach Surf Club. After clearing the entire building, they discovered it was the maintenance room that was being worked on the previous day. As we walked back into the building, the room was on our way back in and was emitting heat and looked like there was visible steam. Feeling that this was our final straw, we packed up and left for home at 10:30 PM.

I have called multiple times this morning, to no avail or response. After calling one last time, the line seems to be disconnected. I am extremely unhappy and left feeling unsafe after this experience. It was extremely unprofessional and a potentially extremely dangerous situation if it had not been a mechanical issue. I will never be returning to this hotel and I hope that these issues are urgently repaired for future guests.
