The Tidewater - Vinalhaven, Maine

Absolutely gorgeous view!
Nobody was there to great us or tell us our room number. We just picked up a key that was waiting for us on the front desk.
We never saw a single staff member or employee.
They had mentioned a "gathering place" on the website, but there was no way of finding it because there were not staff members.
The bed was very nice....
But there was absolutely NO hot water. Not in the kitchen, not for the sink, and not for the shower/bathtub.
The toilet was small and dinky, and gave off a very odd ambiance.

If you were in the office, how come you didn't answer the phone when we tried to call you about the hot water until the 5th try?
Also, we were still charged for both nights....

This hotel had everything we could want plus a very nice simple breakfast. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. Our two nights there were relaxing and soothing due to the sound of the tides underneath the building. Very nice folks that own and run this hotel.

Amazing hotel. Friendly and professional staff, great continental breakfast absolutely fantastic view. This place is a rare gem. Will definitely be coming back!!

The only thing I wish they had was blackout curtains. Besides that absolutely perfect.

We got lucky and got a room here after a disaster at another place. The staff was great. The experience was very easy. Professional. Our room was lovely. Overlooked the bay.
The only downside is that size of the bathroom. Small, no counter space, and the smallest sink I have ever seen.

What a hidden gem... Tidewater is a simple, quaint place to stay. It gets you out of the grind of daily life. Sara and Chad and the rest of the staff are always pleasant and so very hard working. They had no problem dropping us off to hike or kayak. Kayaked past seals sunning on the rocks. Views were breathtaking. I would highly recommend. We are planning a trip back with friends next summer. Great Blues band on Saturday night across the street. We walked around and everyone was nice.

Not fancy or spotless but comfortable and they could not be nicer. So accommodating and easy going. Vinalhaven is not a place that wants throngs of visitors but if you stay at the Tidewater you will be very well looked after. After a day we felt like family and trust me, in Vinalhaven that is helpful.

What a view! Possibly the most picturesque harbour anywhere. This was a lovely, comfy room, in clean and serene colours. Soft sheets and fluffy pillows. Although we didn't take advantage of all the benefits, the Tidewater seems to be very accommodating...pet friendly, pick-up from ferry...many extras. We will definitely come back here. And what a friendly, beautiful island.
