Positive: We were traveling during the holidays with 2 dogs and needed a place that was dog friendly. The Ascent was perfect. We practically had our own entrance and easy access to our car and outdoors. Beds were comfy, room cozy and the breakfast was perfect! Negative: NO - everything exceeded my expectations.

Check in was difficult as the desk clerk couldn't seem to get logged into the system with their credentials and after about 30 minutes and several calls to the manager, the clerk gave up and just gave us our keys. Our room, while decent had some trash and an empty wine bottle on the top of the armoire. There were small stains on the curtain, a large crack in the shower and the exhaust fan had a large piece of the corner broken. Water temps tended to fluctuate from warm to hot, depending on the time of day it was being used. The breakfast wasn't great as the eggs had clearly been sitting there for a while and had dried out. Several of the English muffins were hard and the pancake appliance wasn't on. The staff seemed friendly enough, the halls smelled nice and location was convenient to the local shopping.

Clean, inviting room, very comfortable bed, freshly prepared hot breakfast and a very nice couple who own/manage it. Bathrooms very clean, linens in order. |A minute from restaurants and downtown Freeport, 2 minutes from several excellent vintage stores. Excellent Value. Would stay here again.

Positive: It is a clean and quiet, though slightly dated hotel offering a comfortable room, decent breakfast, and good value. We will certainly stay here if in the Freeport to Portland area. Negative: There was a noticeable cleaning smell in the hallway, but not offensive.

What a dump! We traveled all the way from Florida and this was undoubtedly the worst place we stayed. It was filthy and the smell was terrible. We read some of the other reviews and can not disagree more with any of them that were positive. We didn't stay for breakfast because we didn't trust the food would be sanitary. The only reason I am giving it a one star is because there is not a zero. They were the most expensive ant the worst by far the entire trip.

Reserved 1 month in advance and paid for 2 nights, King Room. When we got there we were informed there were no King Rooms avaliable. Strike 1. They gave us a double queen insisting it was much more expensive. We got the room and there were 2 small bath towels in a room meant for up to 4 people. Strike 2. When we entered the hotel corridor there was an extremely heavy perfume air freshener similar to the one you get in your car at the car wash. When we entered our room the smell of clorox was eye watering. We were so tired we simply went to bed. Next morning we had to be somewhere by 11am so we left. Arrived back at 9pm and went to ask for additional towels. The lady (owner or managers wife) asked about the room and I told her we were disappointed by not receiving what we had paid for. $406. She kept saying how it was a much nicer room but it was terribly small. So small that suitcases would only fit on the spare bed. My 6'2", 210 pound husband struggled to get into bed on "his side" as the space was very, very narrow. About 10 minutes after I left the office the lady and a man identifying himself as the Manager came to offer a King room but we were leaving the next morning and that was just not worth the hassle. For over $400 I should received what I paid for.
