The Birdcage was an amazing experience! The birds are cool, the property is beautiful, and the sunset was great to watch.

I got to try the A5 Wagyu for the first time and that was a very tasty experience. The mocktails are also very good and refreshing. My only complaint is that this is the only restaurant at this price range (e.g. Mama's Fish House and Koast) that I didn't feel full after dinner.

An added bonus is that after dark, there's plenty of stars to gaze at once you walk out to the parking lot.

A beautiful open-air restaurant and lounge in Wailea, The Birdcage offers a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere that makes it a favorite for both hotel guests and visitors. Specializing in Japanese-influenced cuisine, they serve up some of the best food and drinks on the island. Absolutely love this place for sunset happy hour or dinner!

Drinks at The Birdcage are incredible. We always make it a must stop when we’re in Maui. Three years ago we loved the Talk Birdy to Me drink and this trip we loved the Birds of Prey. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any drink.

The views are beautiful at sunset and the service is amazing. The location in general has a very zen feel to it - and it’s fun to hear all the birds at sunset.

Views were unbeatable! We got the Blue Footed Booby and the Bird of Prey as well as Miso Caesar Salad, all were great! But the BEST was the sunset views from here omg. Just go. You will not regret it.

A birthday celebration brought us to The Birdcage, the lobby bar of Hotel Wailea, for some pre-dinner drinks.

ATMOSPHERE:
Located just off the lobby, the open-air bar is dimly lit with very high ceilings, oversized chairs and lounges, and no less than 180-degrees of ocean views. Be sure to check out the tables with bird legs & claws. Also, be careful of bird poop on the chairs. We didn’t see any flying around, but they left their marks and weren’t cleaned off.

MENU:
Handful of salads, apps, seafood, meats & poultry.

BEVERAGE:
Bye Bye Birdie
This vodka-based drink had a nicely balanced mix of slightly sweet, tart, spicy and herby.

FOOD:
Beef Tartare
We were served this while dining at The Restaurant. This definitely landed in my top 10 apps of all time. The creamy and flavorful beef went oh so well with the chicharron! Highly recommended.

SERVICE:
Gal server was friendly & professional. The drinks took a while to come out.

TIP:
No children are allowed at Hotel Wailea.

OVERALL:
Excellent venue for sunsets.

I'm a local resident and have enjoyed many great times there. However my last experience was beyond unacceptable. We were a party of 7 and hosting some friends from out of town. They did not respond to our reservation request and said the dining area was all booked, however it was over half empty when we arrived and stayed empty for an hour and a half until we left. The seated us in the "lounge" area which is 6ft from the main dining floor. The server informed us that we would not be able to order food. I was polite to her and asked nicely and spoke with the manager as well. Both refused to let us order food because of "policy" Furthermore I am in a wheelchair and they do not have handicap access to the dining area. I was in a state of disbelief with how rude and smug they were. Especially when we are spending at least $20 a cocktail. Never going back, I have better parrots at home.

Although it is quite beautiful, do not come here if you are celebrating anything. The food was absolutely below expectations. I did not enjoy any of it. My husband liked the beef tartar but when my 65$ ribeye arrived it was about a ONE OZ steak and both sides were burnt. The drinks were good but nothing special. Definitely a tourist trap, because the views are special but you will leave this place still hungry after spending $300. Not worth it try someplace else.

Unique experience - sunset is beyond beautiful! Food was A+ Our group had ahi salad, grilled salmon and another ahi dish - all were excellent.
