On a beautiful, excellent day just after a light rain shower, we embarked on a soul-stirring journey to St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine in Saint Augustine, Florida. As we entered the shrine, we were warmly greeted by a young man who exuded a youthful spirit and a genuine sense of hospitality. Dressed in the attire of a Greek Orthodox monk, he attended the gift shop and graciously offered us full access to the shrine.

His words dripped with reverence as he shared with us a glimpse into the rich history and significance of the shrine. We listened intently, soaking in every detail of the past Greek Orthodox customs and religious traditions that adorned the shrine’s sacred halls.

Walking through the sanctuary area, a profound sense of calm enveloped us, as if the very air was imbued with the presence of the Almighty. The serenity of the space washed over us, and we felt a deep connection to something greater than ourselves.

Amidst the artifacts and religious items that spoke volumes of faith and devotion, we couldn’t help but feel humbled by the depth of spirituality that permeated every corner of the shrine.

Leaving the shrine, our hearts were full, and our spirits uplifted. We knew in that moment that this would not be our last visit. We vowed to return on our next trip to Saint Augustine, eager to immerse ourselves once again in the tranquility and reverence of St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine.

The St. Photios Shrine is a hidden gem in St. Augustine! The environment is so peaceful and relaxing, the exhibits are rich with history, and the frescoes in the Chapel are absolutely beautiful. Take some time to look around, light a candle, and learn more about the early Greek Orthodox pioneers! 🙂

It was a great experience. The shrine was a great escape from the weather to learn about the first group of Greek Orthodox people that came to America and their hardships they endured. The pictures and artifacts were preserved so well and amazing to see. I especially enjoyed looking at the icons in the shrine and the bishops robes before the gift shop. Overall definitely a great place to stop when you are in St. Augustine.
