What a great group of people they have working here. They deserve to be complemented and they ought to be proud of themselves and their colleagues. It's sad to see how far from normal this team is, but it's still great to see. This goes for Tim (the town manager) and every one of his staff that I was able to see. Exceptionally cordial, professional, and happy to be where they are and doing what they're doing. I wish every city in America was lucky enough to have public employees like them.

I read other reviews and was prepared to be treated poorly. I was pleasantly surprised to be seen promptly upon arrival, was treated with courtesy and respect, and had every question answered completely. Barbara helped me get my truck registered and the entire process was efficient and painless. I overheard the other person behind the counter helping another customer and they were also polite and competent and pleasant. It seems like the South Berwick town hall is well run and operates very professionally. Five stars, will register my vehicle there again next year.

Update 2024: another year with no issues and prompt, courteous service. Anyone having a hard time with this office might want to do some self reflection; everyone here seems cheerful and helpful.

Jeni, Brittany and staff are very professional and passionate at what they do on a day to day basis which ultimately makes OUR life’s (homeowner, contractors, jobs etc.) easier with dealing with already tough situations such as permits, proper paperwork, or to just answer some easy questions. Our old code enforcer (different town) would take months to get back to you and by the time they did, I wouldn’t remember what my question was or if God forbid I missed the phone call from her which has happened, just very stressful when you’re trying to get stuff done. Since moving here to South Berwick. It has just been very easy and enjoyable to say the least, starting off on such a positive and refreshing start!

I always have an issue with the older miserable lady! So mean so rude she treats everyone like coming there is inconveniences her! Do your job lady! Not are fault your miserable this lady should NOT be working with the public!! Needs to be let go! I’m sure in the reviews we’re all talking about the same person! I dread going there every year! I had to wait in line for over an hour! And she said what’s your mileage I wasn’t sure so I had to run downstairs real quick to look it took less then 60 seconds! And she made me go to the back of the line!!! I had to wait almost 45 minutes! Unbelievable!!! I wish I remembered her name cause I would 100% call her out! I have to go back today unfortunately 🙄 I’ll get her name then if she’s there!! This behavior is not OK and it is not OK to treat customers or anyone that way, most of the other workers are sweet, caring patient and understanding! And I appreciate them so much!

No record of my business being registered despite handing in $50 and paperwork with my EIN in the town office. Money was collected by someone uh, “wearing a couple of hats”. 👩‍🚒💸 Also after I picked up money and tools from my parents after work to get my registered plate on THE NEXT DAY I was detained by a very junior night shift cop with a hard-on for making money for the town and had to pay fines and impound fees very close to $800. There are a lot of good people and businesses here and hopefully the chowder clowns have been cleared out, but I’ve boycotted my hometown South Berwick for life. You have enough of my money and it was draconian and ill-gotten in both cases so I’m costing you several times that in lost business over a lifetime. You inflicted hardship at the time when all I needed was those tools and that money to get registered in 12 hours and keep working at my job, not even a full day, and annoyance now trying to prove my business was registered there. So would I recommend living there, checking out the sights or registering a business here? From those two issues, no.

I’ve never had an issue until today.. I wanted to register a car and the lady who helped me was rude the entire time, wouldn’t let me use my husbands card to pay.. (we’re on the registration & account together) so I paid with an account that’s just mine, when I looked at the receipt it had his name on for payment? I don’t understand why she gave me such hard time about everything. Next time I go I will wait longer to have someone else help me.

The lady named Barbra is so incredibly rude.and is a miserable person who enjoys turning people down.I asked what else I would need to proceed with everything and was told everything was pretty basic on the back of the title and then she hung up on me.then Finally got an important piece of information from the other clerk which the original one could’ve told me in the first place she has no business working with the public and should be fired I hate the fact my taxes pay for people like this
