Medieval Castle Towers
This is a fantastic gate guarding the entry to the Town of Ronda. Highly worth your time to visit it. They are comprised of two towers extremely well preserved. You can see them for free and then enter the town.

Puerta de Almocabar

The Almocabar gate originally provided access to the city and on the outside was the Moorish cemetery that used to be located in the area that now is the Plaza Ruedo Alameda. Ferdinand and Isabel first entered Ronda through this gate during their triumphal march into Ronda the Christian reconquest of the city. The walls and gate were left in ruins after the French invasion in the early 19th century and were restored again in the 1960’s. It’s now possible to climb the walls and enjoy views of the San Francisco area from the tower viewpoints.

Ronda is a picturesque town and lives up to the tourist book hype. It is well worth a visit spending a few days wandering the streets and enjoying the restaurants, cafe-bars and surrounding landscape. There are a number of interesting walking/cycling routes from outside the old town walls which can take you to the other side of the valley from the you can see the spectacular bridge spanning the chasm from a distance. We ventured in January to witness not just the sights of the architecture, food and landscape but the festival of the Three Kings, the procession of which meanders streets of the old town for quite a few hours on the evening of 6th January. This is a very noisy affair and sensitive pets may find the experience too loud on occasion. The weather in winter is mild and more akin to early summer temperatures in the more northern parts of Europe. It’s a good season to visit.

Just imagine how many people, peasants, warriors, soldiers, from different places, religions, cultures, have passed through these walls. Makes you wonder

Hello fellow travelers, you find yourself in Rhonda Spain. It's late at night, I need to go to a bar, but I don't want it right in town. I was on the outskirts of town. This is your place. Stunning location. I visited with my family during a winter trip. What a wonderful time we had here. The meatballs here are far better than those at the La lechuguita tapas bar. Even the owner remarked that when he visits a tapas bar, he goes to La Lecuguita. Bar Sanchez deserves your visit. It is a real local experience. You may even find less tourists. I know that if I'm back in town I'm coming back again. So what are the things that I try? Obviously you got to have the olives, the sausage, the meatballs etc etc. It's all very good. Hope to bump into You here next time I'm in town.

Incredible medieval fortified gate to the city of Ronda, situated on the South part of the city where there are no cliffs as natural defense of this beautifu and charming city. It's off the beaten path, so you can have a drink or a meal like a local in any of the bars and restaurants located in the nearby square.
