During the pandemic in 2020 I was removed from MES. I was sent a letter saying the practice was busy & my P.A would be taking over managment of my chronic Graves disease as well as my perscriptions for my Levo tablets. Which were kept the same mg for 2 years.I thought this was bad luck as I went from 220lbs to 287lbs within 3 months, 6 months after having my PA take over. My PA is great, she just isn't an Endocrinologist. I called and got reinstated back into the practice in 2022. The luck I thought was bad turned out to be the best thing, as I was placed with a new doctor at MES, Dr. Milay Luis lam. Since starting to see her my health has completely turned around! I was diagnosed with Graves disease in 2012. Until I got Dr.Lam the other 8 endocrinologists couldn't figure out why the tablets weren't working. No matter the dose change. I was prediabetic at 5.7, obese level III & my hepatic function was horrible due to the fact that 85% of my Graves disease weight was all on my belly area. Meaning I was in danger of fatty liver disease. When Dr. M. Luis Lam came in she looked at my history with a fresh pair of eyes & with her enocrinology education and knowledge she fixed everything. When I say everything I mean it! Everyone metabolizes things differently even medicine. She realized that tweaking the tablets wasn't working & got me on the Capsules known as Synthroid. She started monitoring bloodwork! Now it is every 2 to 3 months! The lbs started melting off she gave me medicine for my B.E.D & I dropped even lower! In the course of the last 9 months of seeing Dr. Lam I went from 287 lbs to 205 lbs. I'm a 5' 11" female my BMI dropped over 10.2 points from 30.09 to 20.07. I went from obese level III, to II, to I to obese to overweight, my A1C is 5.4! The first time in 11 years I have not been pre-diabetic. My liver function tests are showing normal hepatic funtion & I am not in danger of fatty liver disease. I can actually see the outline of my exterior oblique muscles due to all the fat that has just evaporated from my belly and waistline. My face has slimmed down as well, my skin and complexion have improved so much from the internal transformation Dr. Lam helped me achieve, that I actually look 10 years younger and have a bounce back in my steps. Dr. M. Luis Lam is empathetic and compassionate. I have a son that is 12 who has multiple disabilities and of course due to her kind nature she listens and hears you when you speak. She notes what is important and facing a chronic autoimmune disease with a disabled son, longevity is very important to me. Dr. Lam made goals for me to reach and would set new ones when the precursors were achieved. Dr. Lam will walk in your shoes and get you the results you need so you can be as healthy as possible. Just in a little under 2 years she has added many more years to my life. Dr. Lam is at Meritus Endocrinology Specialists because she is empathetic and cares about all of her patients! Even with the history I have Dr. Lam did not look down on me or treat me any differently, she had no pre-conceived notions or judgements after reading my chart or my medications. Just proffessionalism, respect & compassion. If you have a Meritus mychart account Dr. Lam or one of the nurses will get back to you within a few hours or the next business day usually. The office staff is excellent as well making sure messages are sent through. You also have to remember this is the only Endocrinology Specialist Team in Washington County and they see at least 50 patients daily (at least) while also fielding phone call, faxes, prior-auths, perscriptions, insurance issues, medication issues among a laundry list of other things, so don't expect to walk into a doctor's office and be babysat. You need to take charge of your care and be your best advocate! Thank you again Dr. M. Luis Lam you have, given me my health back, faith in medical professionals, hope and many more years to be there for my son and for that I owe you a wealth and depth of gratitude that is unfathomable!
