Hardest 2 mile hike I have ever done. Not the hardest but hardest 2 mile. Loose rock and steep from trail head at road 300. However it was a fun hike. And absolutely beautiful!

Very nice, family and pet friendly trail along the creek. Plenty of camp sites scattered all over. Took us about 2 hours to the end of the trail at a normal pace and about an hour or so to come back. There are 2 small waterfalls at the end of the trail. Also, plenty of shade along the entire trail. Parking at the trail head is free and there is one bathroom.

This is a wonderful place to hike for most everyone. A wide trail that is easy and close to the creek. It’s a little more difficult around the creek but we’ll worth the trip!

I've hike this trail many times - with Boy Scouts and with my family. Sometimes I've hiked up and back, sometimes returned on the Derrick Trail. There are always great flowers and plants to see, and the spring water is awesome as it rolls over the rocks.
There are lots of places to camp, and the trail is very friendly and wide. The Derrick Trail is a little more rustic and there are lots of rocks that you end up walking on, so the Horton Trail is much friendlier.

Beautiful hike. First 2 miles are up and down with some flat or gentle up hills but the last 2 miles or so are steeper. You have to be in fairly good shape to do all 8 miles. Don’t drink the water without a filter. It’s tempting but resist. I got a case of giardia from drinking the water. Not nice.

Took first backpacking trip here back in Fall 2021 and really enjoyed it. Trail is dog-friendly, just be conscious of your own pet's capabilities, tolerance to heat, recall, and wild animals on trail/path. Spring up at the end of the trail was refreshing and hiking along the creek most of the time helped with filtering/refilling our waters.

great trail, 4 miles with an elevation gain of about 1200 ft. get to drink out of a spring at the end. great trail for a water dog, creek adjoins the trail most of the way.
