Booked a stay in a Lakepoint cabin for a week of fishing and enjoying the area, brought my boat to fish. After reading the reviews I thought about not booking but I am glad I booked here . Check in was easy, and getting into our cabin was a breeze. Plenty of parking in front of the cabin for my boat. The only disappointment has been the dock for use by the cabins was damaged in a storm and has not been repaired yet, looks like they have repaired and upgraded the main docks in the marina so I am sure the repairs are being scheduled. Not a big deal as the ramp is just a couple of minutes away. I have stayed at lake front marinas prior and for the class it exceeded my expectations. There are bugs, squirrels, raccoons, deer and other critters that are expected in a wilderness setting. The cabins are rustic so if your expectations are not for rustic you will be disappointed, it may be in your best interest to book someplace at 2-3 times the price. We have enjoyed everything the area has to offer. The restaurant is amazing, and there are plenty of restaurants within a 15 minute drive where you can find just about any food you have a taste for.
The lake is currently 10 foot below normal as they are doing repairs on the dam. The boat ramp is still very usable, and the lake is navigable as long as you pay attention, fishing has been hit and miss.
We are only halfway thru our stay and are already planning a return trip with family.

2nd Update 10.07.2024 I immediately received a response from Highland Marina after updating my review and I am totally at fault. The marina responsed on September 9, 2024 with a very detailed response. I did not receive the message but they fowarded it over to me. It may have gone to my junk/spam folder which I never check. The response was very sincere in appreciating me as a customer. Thank you for that. We will make plans for another stay. I truly appreciate your attention to my concerns. It feels good to be "heard". UPDATE 10.07.2024 After receiving the note from the owner to call or email so that we could discuss I was pleased and hopeful. On 08.27.2024 I sent a detailed email to the address provided. No response. On 09.07.2024 I inquired about an update. No response. Today, 10.07.2024 I sent an additional followup. I am trying not to give up on this place because it has good potential and we enjoy the lake. It would be an ideal weekend getaway when we want to fish but not stay on the water all night. Hoping to hear from the property soon.

We arrived on Friday August 23, 2024 for a 2 night stay. Our friends rented the Lowe for Friday. The pontoon boat was not bad and it rode/drove well. The seats were very worn and it felt a little uncomfortable to sit on them. We checked into cottage #22 after returning to the dock. Pulling up to the cabin there was a lot of trash, paper and bottles out front. It appeared that the cottage next door was being remodeled so I am not certain whether that is where the trash was from. The wood stairs leading to the front door were worn and looked old. There were spiders and webs all over, which some nature is expected but a blower after each party leaves would help a lot. The welcome mat at the front door was not very welcoming. It was dirty and worn. Again, a blower would help a lot. We had no problem entering the code and gaining access to the cottage. The door was also really dirty and wiping it down does not appear to be included with the cleaning fee. Walking into the cottage there was a full size refrigerator, small sink, mini 4 burner electric stove, small microwave and a few cabinets directly in front. I was afraid to open any drawers or cabinet doors but outside appearance was nice. Inside the refrigerator was clean. To the left there was a sofa, large chair, coffee table, 2 end tables and a small dining table that seats about 4. The floor was visibly sunk in - it was a little scary. My partner is an amputee and I worried the entire trip about him losing his balance. The general area was decent. There were a lot of webs all over the inside at the ceiling. The cleaning fee should include getting some of these down. I know you are by the lake and some outside stuff is expected but a good sweep would go a long way. The sliding patio door was not good. It was old and broken. Broken to the point of injury when trying to open the door. It did not slide very well to open or close. The glass to the patio were filthy. You could not enjoy the beautiful view of the lake through the very nasty glass. Again if there is a cleaning fee, the unit should be cleaned. The patio could not be enjoyed. There was a black iron table and 2 matching black chairs. None of it could be enjoyed because the table and chairs had all kind of leaves and debris all over, along with spider webs that included large spiders. The flooring on the patio was worn out dated wood that did not feel safe. I did not even feel comfortable using my personal chair on the deck. The railing was nasty and dated. Again a blower would do wonders. There was a grill but I was too afraid to open it. The bathroom was decent but the toilet was very small. I do not know just yet about the water pressure. Better matching light bulbs would be nice. More to come after night #1. We did not sleep in the bed because the floor did not seem secure under the bed and the bed frame was a bit flimsy. We ended up sleeping on the sofa in the den area. Water pressure and temperature for the shower was good but the shower

We had to stay here 1 night when the AC at our Southern Harbor cottage was broken. We stayed in a one-room cottage. The AC worked well. The bed was too small and soft for one couple (400 lbs.). Really, wouldn’t stay if I didn’t have to due to price and comfort.

Every recreation area has a pest, and this place is loaded with buzzards. Vulture Haven.

We bought a rv and wanted to spend a quiet weekend. We set up a reservation 2 weeks in advanced but when the day came we couldn’t get there at 3 pm. So we called and they were closed so we left an emergency message letting them know we were still coming and to find out what slot we are supposed to have. They replied and told us # 124. We get there and couldn’t find the number maker it was knocked over and it was so close to another camper and right in front of the bath house. The slab was broken and we were mostly in dirt and piles of leaves. But it was dark. We got up daylights and saw that the camp ground was over half empty. We also couldn’t get level. So we were uncomfortable which in turn made our cats uncomfortable. So we pack up a day early and as we were leaving noticed all the camp sites had a sewer connector and a water spicket that didn’t leak.

I’ve eaten here a handful of times over the last few months. It has always been wonderful. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The weather has been wonderful, so I’ve only sat outdoors. The lake view is lovely. The food is delicious. The service is generally excellent.

My husband and I reserved 2 Nights at rv park. We were supposed to be there Saturday by 3 pm we’re ran late so my husband called it said they were closed so we left an emergency message asking what we are supposed to do. We got a reply giving us directions to slot #124 when we got there we had a hard time finding it because the number was knocked over. And covered in leaves and dirt. Once we found it we hooked up. It was real close to the trailer next to us. There was also another extension cord plugged into it and we were very close to a septic drain, not close enough to be ours. The next morning we woke up noticed that the park was only 1/3 rd full and there was many other slots we could have had. We didn’t have a room to picnic or even set up our grill. We were uncomfortable enough our pets didn’t want to eat anything so we packed up and left a day early. When we were driving out we noticed almost all of the sites had septic hook ups and a solid pad to set up on. This was supposed to be my birthday get away I don’t know why we were given the worst lot there.

The wife and I enjoyed dinner at Captain's this evening. Great food (shrimp and burger entrees), great service and great views/atmosphere. We will be back!
