Terrible leadership. Expect when your mailbox is destroyed or trash doesn't get picked up- they don't care.

Updated review, we've lived in Hermon for a year and a half now and I've interacted with the people at the town office multiple times since my original situation and they've always been helpful and friendly in person or on the phone. Hopefully they've fixed their voicemail/lack of that or notification through phone system issue but at this point they've been so good about other things that I can't hold that against them when most of them have no control over it hah

We moved to Hermon recently after living out of state for several years. I've previously lived in Orono, Bangor, Glenburn, and Orrington, as well as several towns outside of Maine and in southern Maine, and I've honestly never had such a weird and inconvenient experience related to contacting a town office. The strangest part is once you get in touch with someone they seem to all be friendly and helpful, but they don't seem to believe in using phone recordings to let you know when they can't help you, and instead just set it up to have the phone line hang up on you if they're busy or out that day. For example, when I first called to ask about details on getting my car registered I tried about 5 times that Monday, not realizing it was a state holiday I wasn't familiar with. Instead of having a recording saying the office was closed for a holiday, it makes you go through the phone tree to select the department you want, rings several times, then hangs up on you without notice. I though there must be something wrong with the phones so I emailed and heard back the next day saying they had been closed for the holiday. The staff member who responded was helpful but didn't address why they don't bother with a recording to tell you when they're closed rven though I asked. I tried back the next day when they were open and of course, the same thing happens twice, so I emailed back, explaining there must be some reason I can't get through and asking if someone could call me. They did, but it turns out that day it was just busy after the holiday and they were short staffed, so again, the phones just hang up on you. Today I tried calling (a couple weeks later) about a different matter and...you guessed it, it did the same thing. I honestly understand that there are only so many people they can help at a time and that they need breaks and holidays, but I've never contacted any sort of business, government or otherwise, where it was just normal practice to not even have an out of office or busy message saying to call the next day or try back later etc. I know we aren't a huge town with tons of resources but couldn't we at least get a recording for holidays and a "we're busy, try back later or leave a message" sort of recording? And even just the option of leaving a message for someone to call you when things are slow would be amazing and entirely reasonable.
