A local resident recommended we try Helen's since we were heading to Machias. So happy we did!

Service was excellent! Our waitress always seemed to come by at the right time, made recommendations, and always brought what we needed.

I had the fried clams - perfectly fried and super fresh! Fries were perfectly crispy. Companion had some chicken tenders which again were perfectly fried. We were told they were famous for their blueberry pie, and I have to agree. Nice flaky crust, not overly thickened and not overly sweetened. They really let the blueberry flavor shine! A scoop of vanilla ice cream on top just ended desert on a high note.

Helen's was a wonderful surprise in the middle of Maine, just off the beaten path from Lubec or Campobello. We got a recommendation to come here and we're not disappointed. The food was mouth-watering, fresh & delicious. The pies were to die for...and the atmosphere was cozy and quaint. I even bought a sweater to remember them by!

For the most part certain dishes are good. Today I had the pot roast which is very good. Meat was tender and I got a baked potato and broccoli with it. One of my favorites was the meatloaf but the last time I had it, maybe it was an off day, it was overcooked and dry. And another time I had the chicken dinner which was very good. But apparently it's only offered as a special on Thursdays. So I'm not a picky person but I only like less than a handful of their dishes. But desert is always good.

Absolutely love Helen’s. I have eaten there since 2010, every time I am in Machias. All the seafood is fresh and delicious and over the years I have tried it all. This year was special as I celebrated my birthday there. Thanks Julie and David for making it “extra” special.

Delicious pie! We stopped here for pie and coffee on a Friday mid-afternoon. The blueberry pie (in season) may have been the best we ever had.

I've eaten at Helens 20 times in the last 4 years. Food is always terrific, from haddock chowder to shepherds pie to fried shrimp. Blueberry pie and chocolate cream pie second to none. Cocktails are top notch as well! Waitstaff is always friendly and attentive. Saturday we had a young waitress I believe her name was Emily was really great!

I am not exaggerating when I say we had two of the best meals of our life here. We first stopped here for lunch during our Down East road trip, and we loved it so much that we made a significant detour on the way back for another lunch. Both times my husband had a pot roast that he said was the best he ever had, and I am lobster roll with butter on the side rather than mixed with mayo. Just look at that lobster! And we split blueberry pie with ice cream for dessert. Great, friendly service and a nice view of the Machias River. Definitely come here, even if it's out of your way.

The food is very tasty, especially the lobster rolls. The fish chowder is very hearty with lots of fish. The pies are worth a trip just for them. I particularly liked the boston cream pie. When you go, get a seat by the windows because the views of the river are amazing!
