Hālawa Park - Kaunakakai, Hawaii

Great beach! Heck of a drive from kaunakakai. Took about an hour, and the last ~8 miles is really a 1 lane road with some pulloffs to let opposing traffic by. Drive carefully and allow some extra time. There is a pavilion with a bathroom right before the beach. Heard of some vehicle breakins.

Die Fahrt auf der kurvenreichen, teilweise engen Straße lohnt sich. Der Ausblick ins Halawatal, an dessen Ende man den Wasserfall sehen kann, ist wunderschön. Die Strände waren fast menschenleer, mit etwas Vorsicht konnte man auch an bestimmten Stellen ins Wasser gehen. Leider lag am Strand viel Mikroplastik.

A beautiful beautiful area each time we've gone. For us, never been anyone down there just beautiful greenery in the background with a large waterfall at the end. The beach has very small breaks and the waves sound so soothing and gentle. Nice little walk around the entire crescent and with the lack of pretty much any noise and people, it was a real reflection moment when I strolled it by myself. Plenty of space to park at the end. One of my favorite places on the island.

this was my favorite beach I went to in Molokai! the waves were perfect and there was a lot of room to lay out. Gorgeous views and multiple areas to access the water.

The magnificent views enticed us as we drove down into the valley. It is one lane and very windy to the end of the road… literally. You find yourself in a lush garden jungle covered valley, where you can stand in the mix of ocean and river water as you look up the valley to the spectacular waterfalls. There are 2 small coves within one larger protected cove. We spent the entire day alone, exploring and enjoying these beaches. It was a day I’ll likely never forget.

Molokai beaches are idyllic, almost cliche. Soft white sand, clear aqua blues of the warm water, palm trees, wildlife… you know, Hawaii 🏝 Yet, not. There are so few people on this island that you find yourself alone or nearly alone at every beach. The east (wet) side of the island has mangroves and jungles, whereas the west end is desert with thorn tree forests. (Seriously, watch out for those thorns, Yo!) The west side also has amazing tide pools at most beaches.
All around, I found many beaches to have a wicked undertow with super soft and fluffy sand that you sink 6”-10” + into. Of course I know it’s all crabs in there as I’d just watched them scurry from hole to hole and dig more holes! 😳🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀 😳🤣

The whole drive offered breathtaking views of the valley and the beaches. The water was kinda choppy and muddy for snorkeling but it’s nice to walk around the two beaches and get toes wet. (If you see a large group of local gathering, be sure to say hi and ask politely if you can park next to them, otherwise you will get “educated” about respecting their land......)

It's a wold ride to get here, along a lot of narrow winding roads. On the day we visited most recently there was a lot of debris on the roads, heavy rain, and the need to go slow and be patient. Wonderful payoff at the end, beautiful beach where, when looking back up the valley, you can see 3 waterfalls. While you're here, make sure you sign up to take the hike with Greg.

The scenery and drive are breathtaking, but there's no real place to swim and the road is very narrow. It's worth the drive on a well-lit sunny day, but you should avoid peak traffic hours and not bank on swimming.
