We stayed at Decker Hotel and Bar in Maquoketa for 3 nights with our toddler and infant, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, the owners made us feel completely at home – they were incredibly kind, helpful, and genuinely sweet.

The hotel itself is charming and full of character, with each room being unique. We stayed in the one-bedroom king room with a hot tub and absolutely loved it – the jets were perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The bedding was the comfiest we’ve ever slept on, making each night a dream. The decor is quirky and old-world, and the heritage property is beautifully maintained. The high ceilings and spacious rooms added to the feeling of comfort and elegance.

We highly recommend Decker Hotel and Bar to anyone visiting Maquoketa – it’s a warm, welcoming, and memorable place to stay.

Only one night, but really enjoyed my stay. I love historic hotels and this one is really interesting. My room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious. Light breakfast of cereal and yogurt, breakfast sandwiches were available. Great location in downtown, not far from Maquoketa Brewing.

This is a charming old hotel. You feel like you walked into another time. The rooms were clean. There is no service ices like ice or vending which just kind of added to the charm. We did have a jacuzzi in our room which was nice. And the bar is closed now. But we will definitely stay there again.

A very cool old hotel! Our room was small but suited us just fine. There was always someone at the front desk, the lobby was beautiful! Overall comfortable and very clean. I would and do plan to stay again when we come back!|We did not ask about the restaurant or breakfast or bar so I cannot speak on those particulars but thought our stay was good.

We loved our stay here! Now keep in mind - it’s a hotel. Not a bed and breakfast. Yes, the continental breakfast was pretty basic - mainly cereal, some sausage rolls, yogurt and fruit. Coffee was a Keurig which was fine for us. We did have a refrigerator and microwave in our room. It helps to read what each room features when booking. The hotel itself was so charming! The history and architecture were amazing. Mike the owner was out but his assistant was very kind and made sure we had what we needed. The elevator was out of order but he offered to carry my bags- which I declined but someone else utilized. Central air in the rooms and clean sheets, towels, etc. The shower was fantastic! Great water pressure and my boyfriend said it was probably the best shower he’s ever had. If you are high maintenance- this isn’t your place. If you’re more about the romantic side and the feel of the history of the place - you will have as great of a time as we did.

My husband and I have stayed Tt the Decker Hotel off and on for ~20 years. It has changed management several times over the course of that span. It seems to have changed again. The building was restored many years ago, but the exterior is now running down pretty badly. The interior actually looked cleaner than the last time we stayed. The bed was comfortable. The TV only had a few channels, and they were random—HGTV, Weather Channel, National Geographic—no network channels or ESPN. We asked the guy at the desk. English was not his first language, but he did manage to tell us 2-24 only. However, half of those channels had no content. It was Saturday and we wanted to watch our college team play football. Since we could not watch the game, I would have liked to read. There was a bedside table with a lamp on one side of the bed but not the other even though there was plenty of room. No light to read. The “breakfast room” is a joke. There was a table with some snack bars, bananas, and some cereal and a fridge that was pretty empty. There used to be a really good restaurant in the first floor and a bar downstairs, but those are gone. This seems picky but we paid $197 for one night and expected more.

We stayed here specifically for the whirlpool in room. There was not enough water to even turn jets on. Or shower fully even the next morning after our failed attempt to use the whirlpool. Owner came up and told us the water was hot, it was barely luke warm. Offered to let us leave at 9pm for a refund. We settled for a $30 discount as we didn't want to find a new hotel that late. Disappointing experience.
