We were here for several nights and really enjoyed our time. Gwen the front desk agent was extremely friendly even though she was very busy and hard at work. She hooked us up with an AMAZING room that had a spectacular view of the ocean right off the cliffs. Would say that the rooms seem a little older and there is no gym on location but for the quality of the room, the pool and the location, it is easily forgiven. Would definitely return if offered again.

The VIEWS! Staff was nearly invisible (a good thing), which means this Wyndham seemed at times like a beautiful private resort. We loved our stay at Shearwater.

We Did not have wifi the whole time we were there, pool and hot tub very small . The views were awesome kauai is the most beautiful island the rooms apartment was very nice and my bed faced the sun rise on the ocean and that was courageous . Very nice staff very clean.

Misleading Room Descriptions and Lack of Attention to Detail

We were very disappointed with our stay at this hotel. The room we booked was advertised on both Expedia and ExtraHolidays.com as having a full ocean view, with photos showcasing stunning, unobstructed vistas. However, upon arrival, we discovered that only timeshare owners are offered full ocean-view rooms, and we were given a partial view instead. This was incredibly misleading and feels like false advertising. If full ocean views are reserved for timeshare owners, this should be made clear in the booking details.

To make matters worse, the room alarm had been left set for 6 a.m., which woke up our baby—definitely not how we planned to start our vacation. When we brought this up to the staff, they claimed housekeeping has no way of knowing if a previous guest left the alarm on. I had to personally show them the indicator light that clearly shows when an alarm is set. It’s frustrating that such a simple issue wasn’t addressed as part of the standard room preparation process.

Another point to note is that the hotel has no air conditioning. While this wasn’t a big issue for us during our stay, it’s something that isn’t advertised clearly, and it could be a dealbreaker for others depending on the time of year.

Overall, the lack of transparency in advertising and the oversight in basic room checks left us feeling let down.

We are Wyndham owners and it was our first time to Hawaii and Shearwater, we were a family of five and had no drastic complaints! We enjoyed our time from check in to check out. We stayed here for nine days and enjoyed the quietness and view of the ocean. Restaurants was close; but we cooked breakfast every morning and had dinner most of the nights; yes it can be pricy if you have a party of five but just embrace the moments in Hawaii as we did! Housekeeping was amazing! Every-time we needed something; it was delivered to us in a timely fashion. Yes the nature out here is beautiful and has its own motions; but no need to freak out if you find an intruder (bug) in your place; pick it up and take it outside. Is that simple! When I saw the negative reviews on this about the “bugs” situation; I was skeptical and said to myself why are these people visiting Hawaii when this land is full of animals and bugs!!!!!! Let nature take its course and stop complaining! Back to my wonderful experience here; yes is worth coming to Shearwater with your family! Like I said we enjoyed every moment here and do not let those negative comments discourage you from coming to visit! Rooms yes are outdated but your coming to an island where you have all the living necessities to make your vacation work❤️. I would come here again but would like to visit other island in Hawaii in the near future. A shout out to the Shearwater staff members and a big thank you for all you do in Hawaii; your very much appreciated from the New York family.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom presidential at Wyndham Shearwater in mid April 2024. We enjoyed our stay. Our place was second floor right above the pool. We thought this might be a problem but it really wasn’t. The views are beautiful. It’s unfortunate there really isn’t a beach close that’s easy to get to. We did hike down to the beach that you can get to from the trail that starts in the Shearwater parking lot. It’s not an easy hike. Don’t bring lots of stuff with you on the hike. You have to climb some rocks which make it tough with lots of stuff. Once you are there it’s great!! Your own private beach! There is no A/C but they had fans in our unit which helped. It was our first time to Kauai so we weren’t familiar with the North Shore and how much more rain it gets. This would have been an issue except that the locals seem to look for any reason to “close”. That was frustrating. Make sure you call before going to any store or restaurant. They don’t follow their stated hours. We will be going back to Shearwater next year.

Location was nice - on the cliffs over the ocean. There was a nice view and wonderful breeze!
Not a lot of amenities at this particular hotel, but the sister hotel is a 4 minute drive away and you are able to use those amenities
