The Big Moose Inn was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by the beauty of nature and the warm hospitality of the staff. The house we rented was absolutely perfect—clean, spacious, and with all the comforts of home. It felt like our own private retreat in the woods, with stunning views and a cozy atmosphere that made it hard to leave.

The real standout, though, was the restaurant. The food was nothing short of tremendous! Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, with fresh ingredients and flavors that exceeded our expectations. The flat iron steak with the lobster butter was a crowd favorite, but truthfully each meal was a culinary delight. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance of the restaurant made every dining experience special.

If you're looking for the perfect combination of comfort, relaxation, and top-notch dining, the Big Moose Inn is the place to go! The Derby boys can't wait to return!

We enjoyed a 2 night stay in Suite 4. The location of the Inn was close and convenient to Baxter SP, Mt Katadhin and the Golden Road. We arrived and were warmly greeted by Sara and the owner. Both of which were lovely, friendly and professional. The inn is well kept and Suite 4 suited our needs perfectly. The Wi-Fi at the inn was sufficient but elsewhere in the region was quite sparse. So screenshot directions, etc in advance. June is mosquito and fly season and long sleeved shirts and pants are a must. The restaurant and bar on site was nice. Service was adequate and friendly. I particularly liked the beer selection and Big Moose Mac. The breakfast was a straight forward continental fare and served early. We rented an Old Town Canoe for the day and paddled out from the property. The view of Katadhin from the middle of the lake was beautiful. We were able to pull the canoe up to the beach at River Drivers and enjoy lunch before paddling back to the lodge for a quiet evening. You can walk to the airplane scenic rides from the property as well. Parking was okay if you were able to arrive before the restaurant and bar guests. ||Overall, it was a great stay. I’d recommend the inn to those interested in Baxter SP.

We were looking to RV camp as close to Baxter State Park as possible and this was the place. The staff was friendly and reservations and check in were very easy. The sites have water and electric hookups, I chose one of the sites closest to the Lake but you have to still walk around the large rocks to access the lake. There are kayak and canoe rentals, I brought my own so I do not know the rental price. It was a short kayak carry to the lake. The lake was a wonderful peaceful place to kayak and there were great views of Mt. Katahdan. There are two different places to eat onsite, we only ate at the “Loose Moose” and the service and food were excellent. The bathrooms and showers are adequate but beware of the spiders; the showers run on quarters. There is no dump station but for $15, you can use the one in town at the Visitor Center, 1029 Central St, Millinocket, ME (see pic). The only thing I didn't like was the 10am check out, other than that, we loved it!

Like most people I don't normally write reviews. Also, I'm a pretty easy going guy and usually take things in stride. However my experience at this campground was enough of a mixed bag I wanted to speak up.

Months ago I emailed, then called to book a site. I told them my trailer size, (27ft hitch to bumper) and they recommended site C1. Keep in mind I grew up in the country and have towed lots of trailers lots of places. I've towed this camper 20k miles or so, I've backed it into the woods and lots of tight spots. However be warned, the entire RV camping area is VERY tight. If you don't want brush and tree branches hitting your truck and trailer most of the time driving in this isn't the campground for you. This being said, really cool remote sites with good privacy. Once you're in you feel like you have your own little backwoods cabin or something, it's a good spot. The sites themselves are decent size as you can see, it's just the road getting in and out. Also, if you don't have 4x4 don't attempt it. There's a big hill at the start to tow up and even with my rear diff locker I still had to click it in 4x4.

The bigger issue though is there is no way to turn around easily when leaving. The campsites are on a through road back out to Millinocket Rd but it's WAY too thin to fit a trailer. I drove it empty in my f250 and it was a squeeze, much less with the trailer. The only way I was able to turn the trailer around was by using 2 empty opposing camp sites and even then it wasn't pretty. If the campground had been full I would have basically just been stuck there.

After booking I thought my plans had changed and we wouldn't be able to make it. I called to see if I could cancel which I couldn't. I had zero problem with that I get it, they have a business to run. However, they told me to send a friend up or something if I knew someone to get use out of the sites.

Well, I get there and they said the site was canceled and had to make sure it wasn't rebooked. So they clearly were going to double book it if they could have and profit off me even if someone did show up. Just a bit unethical in my opinion. A fairer policy is giving a refund if it books again or even say a half refund since you had to go through the trouble to rebook it. Otherwise they keep all your money, I'd have no problem in that case.

To end off on a positive note, Millinocket is a cool little town, the Golden Road is really neat as well. Did a few little hikes, and actually attended a wedding at NEOC and the grounds were very very nice. The food at the restaurant on site was pretty good too, the waitress was working her butt off running the place by herself it looked like. Overall nice people and a good place i think with some improvement. The trip was great overall I just wanted to put this out there for those with larger campers.

We stayed two nights. This is about as close as you can get to Baxter State Park without camping out. The location is great for accessing the Park, trails or whitewater rafting. We stayed in Suite 1, upstairs, above the lobby and restaurant. The place has a great "cabin feel" with plenty of common space and several locations to eat off a shared menu - main dinning room, porch, screened porch. There is also a nice bar on site, as well as another new bar and restaurant just across the driveway. Breakfast was provided and the dinner menu was great for hungry hikers.

The Big Moose Inn is an amazing place. Great people, great food, great atmosphere, great entertainment, great location. They were exceptional in hosting my pre and post wedding celebration as well as providing amazing lodging accommodations for many people coming from far away. Laurie and crew are always happy and helpful. This is by far one of the best place to stay, eat and drink in the entire Maine North Woods. Plus, the history of Fredericka's is beyond fascinating, you really can't find a better location to stay in the area.

I run an outdoor program for a summer camp in Maine and booked two campsites from Big Moose Inn.. $388.00 for two sites for 1 night. The sites are all hard gravel and then to top it off you had to pay for the showers! Coin operated showers with cold water and one of which didn't even work . I would think for $190 per site you'd get a shower as part of the facility. As well as charging $7 for a bundle of firewood which is quite steep it was terrible quality wood.

I have been to Big Moose on two separate occasions. Once I stayed in one of the cabins, and once I stayed in the campground. It was clean, and the facilities were all in good working order. The campground had nice bathroom facilities and hot water for showers. The food at the restaurant was really good, and the close proximity to Baxter State Park is a big plus. I will definitely stay here again!
