Booked this hotel in 2023 for our annual Acadia trip. Arrived Labor Day weekend to be told our reservation had been cancelled by the new owner and I “should have” received a refund for the initial deposit I paid months ago - which I did not. No notification of cancellation, no refund. I scrambled to find a new place to stay. The lady at the front was helpful in getting my deposit back. All in all, it was a blessing in disguise. What an absolute dump this place is. Office reeks of cigarette smoke. The clientele hanging around outside is the opposite of who I would want my family around for the weekend. Although the whole cancellation was inconvenient and poor business practice, it was SO much better in the end than staying here would have been. Don’t book this place, I promise you’ll regret it.

Update: Recently tried contacting them to book a room. But they ignored all my emails. Sad...I guess they hated the ferrets.

I traveled from New Jersey, and this was the closest place from Acadia National Park and the ONLY place that allowed me to bring my ferrets. Thanks to you, we had a fun family trip altogether.

Also, unexpectedly, housekeeping also came into our room while we were out for the day to make our beds and provided a new towel.

I booked a trip for July and I got a message that my reservation was canceled and I will be refunded my deposit. I called to find out why and I was told the new owners are not honoring any of the reservations that were already made! That was the exact explanation I was given. My husband and I were really looking forward to going to Maine our first time and staying at a place that was pet friendly. Unfortunately that's being changed due to the new management of the sunrise motel!

We loved staying here for 2 nights in August. Room was large,
immaculate and it was great having a kitchenette since one of us
has major eating restrictions and could not eat out. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and was very helpful prior to booking. Pleasant employees, too. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! HIGHLY recommend if you are seeking affordable accommodations near Bar Harbor.

Unfortunately, I did not take pictures. I highly recommend this Motel. The room was large and clean, the small kitchen sitting area and futon were a plus. The mini fridge worked well and the room had a microwave. The grounds are maintained well and very pretty (lots of flowers). Large firepit area with plenty of Adirondack chairs, nice sized pool, on-site coin operated laundry (with board games) and ice machine. The wooded walking path and wicker sitting area amongst the wildflowers were very much enjoyed. I appreciated the provided dog waste bags and can. The cleaning staff were friendly and accommodating. The front desk staff make you feel at home and were available for local questions. I will definitely stay here again when I come back to visit

This place was absolutely lovely. My husband and I came back to Maine to celebrate our 1 year of being married. It was awesome here! Beds were super cozy, the bath was a nice size. Good parking, and a beautiful view, super safe area as well. It’s conveniently located between Ellsworth about 10 minutes and bar harbor about 20 minutes. My husband and I ran to Walmart out of the 4 days we stayed here at least 2 which was nice not to drive a long drive after we went to the harbor. Donna our cleaning lady was also super kind, she tidied our room almost every day and was such a sweet heart! The owner is also such a great and caring lady! If I could I’d rate this place 10 stars! Definitely will be coming back.

I was on vacation to hike and experience Acadia solo as a woman. I love the location of this motel, and I felt very safe. I got one of the smaller rooms, and I definitely utilized the refrigerator and microwave daily. Everything worked great and the room was always clean. It is nice that the owner lives on the premises. Katherine and her staff were very friendly. She treats this place like home because it is her home. I will definitely stay here when I come back to Acadia. I miss this beautiful place already!!! Almost forget to say it was a great price, and I live on a budget.

If you're going to Acadia, please stay here! Great hotel with comfortable rooms close to bar harbor and Ellsworth. There's a lovely play area for kids at the back. There was also a pool but we were unable to enjoy that because of constant rain. Also shout out to the lovely housekeeping ladies who kept helping me find stuff my kids kept hiding in the room. 🙄 Seriously nicest and best cleaning staff I've ever met. Thank you so much.
