Today I went to this gym for the first time, it reflects all the values ​​of Checkmat, and a little more.

The teacher is very accessible, friendly, very careful in every detail when teaching the technique, and making sure that one executes it correctly.

The classmates are strong, fast, but careful enough to protect the opponent from injuries.

I know of few places where you can practice jiu-jitsu as confidently and as safely as there.

Having started my BJJ training late in life, I'm truly blessed to be surrounded by such fine people. Having grandkids, it's great seeing the kids blossom into fine, confident humans. Thanks, Professor Mauricio, and the upper classes for a great training experience. I'm learning a lot and have never been so fit.

I stopped in to get some training while on vacation. I called Professor Mauricio to ask if I could stop by for the competition class but didn't have my gi. He was very kind, told me to stop by and provided me with a perfectly fitting clean gi. The gym was very cool(both literally and physically). Everyone made me feel at home and willing to learn. Definitely felt like home in just the 2 hours I spent there. Next time you're in Tampa or move here and need a gym, don't look any further. Oss

Been taking my son for a couple months and have been impressed by Professor Mauricio’s passion and knowledge of Jiu Jitsu. Decided to start training as well about a month ago and have had a great time. Great workout and lots of fun! Great environment and great people all around. What a great facility to train at and such a great team to train with. Ive been with checkmat for over 2 years, have been training BJJ for just about 10, and in my travels I have never found a gym such as this! Everyone supportive of each other and great friends. Offers kids classes, fair pricing on membership, gi and nogi, culture of safety. Professor Mauricio Carra is a gold mine of knowledge and trains with and coaches each of his students every class, and besides, a great guy! I just started training here and I have been welcomed by everyone with open arms. It’s great gym for anyone who is looking to compete or just do Jiu-Jitsu as a hobby, a good mix of higher belts and lower belts. Good energy and Mauricio is a legit professor with a lot of experience. I drive 30-40 minutes to train here and it is worth it!

Amazing place with an amazing professor! The people who roll here are friendly and welcoming, as well. We have established great friendships with most of the families and individuals here and are blessed to have found such a supportive atmosphere. The professor teaches discipline and respect to the children within the children’s class, while in return, demonstrating patience and understanding equally to all students. The adult classes allow students to advance within the bjj realm, while establishing confidence within the individual.

Professor Jeremy made it known to me when I first started at the gym, that we are a family and this is our home. He teaches us that there are more things to learn in Jiu Jitsu than guards and submissions, that there are lessons and philosophies we can apply to everything you do. We as a family treat everyone with kindness and respect with respect on and off the mats. The environment is great for practitioners of all levels, and the workouts are absolutely savage.
