Great time with my son in law. Capt Louie was ready when we arrived. Lots of nice sea trout for the freezer. Brought in blue fish, lizard fish, black bass, several small sharks. And the biggest surprise was landing and releasing a beautiful jumping 100 lb tarpon after an almost 12 minute fight. Capt Louie is very knowledgeable and readily gave us advice to be more successful.

What an awesome trip. Our family was visiting and Captain Louie arranged for two more captains and boat to accommodate the nine of us. Rate was very reasonable, and we all caught our limits plus many catch and release. It was our family Christmas. We booked a scallop charter with Cpt Sean and had a terrific time. Took our daughter for the first time scalloping and Cpt Sean was great at explaining how to do it and showing us as well. My grandson graduated from high school May 27th this year. On his last day of classes, he said to me, “Grandad, the only thing I want to do before I leave for boot camp at Parris Island is to fish.” So, we scheduled days on our calendars for us to do just that, fish. And as any good grandad would do, I booked him a special treat, a Grouper fishing charter with Capt. Louie of Florida Fishing Adventures in Crystal River on “Opening Day”.

Well, Capt. Louie made it not just a special fishing trip, but my grandson’s most memorable Grouper fishing trip ever. At 6:30am, we left the docks at Shrimp Landing and headed out to Capt. Louie’s pin fish traps. Each trap that he pulled up from the bottom was loaded with bait; pin fish, sea bass, grunts, squirrel fish, and spots. Quickly the bait well was full, so off we went to wet our lines.

We arrived at the first fishing spot shortly after 7:50am. Capt. Louie lowered his Minn Kota trolling motor and then carefully positioned his boat just where he wanted it, facing into the mild breezed. He then turned to us and said, “There is only one rule in Grouper fishing; when you feel the thump on your rod, pull up hard and reel. You want at least three turns on the rod as the Grouper is going to dig hard to get back down to the bottom.”

Capt. Louie handed my grandson and I a rod, picked a really nice bait fish, hooked it in the belly, grinned and said, “Toss it out, get ready, and hold on”. That was certainly an understatement, if I have to say so. Our baits landed in the water and were quickly heading straight down. Needless to say, neither of the baits made it to the bottom. Both rods bent over double. We yanked hard and pulled up on the rods as we began to crank the handle on the spinning reels as the Grouper ferociously turned and dug down.

My grandson and I found ourselves at the beginning of what was to be a truly remarkable day on the water with Capt. Louie; who I can truly attest, is an extraordinary Grouper charter fishing guide. A lot of times you hear a guide talk about yesterdays and last weeks, none of which comes to fruition. Thus, making for an okay or sad day on the water. Let me tell you, if Capt. Louie says, “Yesterday or last week was great”, believe him. He knows his Grouper, and he has no problem telling you. No bragging just facts

Remember I said we arrived at our first fishing spot around 7:50am. By 8:31am, we had four keeper Grouper, two each for our limit in the boat. After that, it was time to start culling our catch and we did just that upgrading with nicer fish. All in all, my grandson and I probably caught sixty plus Grouper in a little over three and a half hours. Now that is what I call a “Real Man’s” Grouper fishing charter!
